sort of makes you want to take up sewing

A long enjoyable bicycle ride on a beautiful fall day, but nothing much scrounged along the way--until, at the end of the ride, I spot a full roll away (big portable trash container) in the front yard of an old house that's being cleaned out. It takes a good bit of moving heavy trash bags and digging down through old mattresses, decaying newspapers, and the like, but the roll away yields all sorts of treasures, among them: a 1940s/1950s metal and heavy glass 'malted milk mixer'; a delicate little porcelain cup (somehow unchipped and unbroken); a big Modigliani and the Artists of Montparnasse art book; a bunch of old bowling patches, circa mid-1970s; and a package of Rocket brand sewing needles, perhaps from the 1950s, its cover a man and woman riding a rocket ship through outer space, her purse flying out behind, he holding his hat, and the earth glowing in the distance.
