don't be looking in the trash...for America

The true meaning of the 4th of July, discovered the day after.

Coming around the edge of dumpster I've just dived, I spot two police cars parked behind the liquor store next door. In the next moment, one of the officers is on his loudspeaker, warning me: 'Don't be looking in the trash'. I nod and bicycle away.

Arriving at the next dumpster a few blocks to the east, back to looking in the trash, I discover a handful of American flags, leftovers from yesterday's patriotic celebrations, stuffed in a black garbage bag among wet food scraps and plastic wrappers.

Don't be looking in the trash--you might find something.

  1. Looking in the trash is in my blood...the hunt, the find, the mounting anticipation of ripping open that box or bag, and, in the now immortal words of Forrest Gump, '...(it's) like a box of chocolates...'! Bring it on! Recent find includes a small library of calligraphy books (12-15)including one that two people have listed on Amazon at $225. Now to post, undercut, and find a sucker...

  2. Have you done any study into why trash pickin' is so offensive to so many people?
